Board of Commissioners

In accordance with Louisiana Revised Statute 46:2352, the Louisiana Commission for the Deaf has an established Board of Commissioners, consisting of qualified and knowledgeable members with experience that enables them to represent the concerns, needs, and recommendations of d/Deaf, DeafBlind, and hard of hearing persons. The Board is responsible for supporting the work of the Commission and advocating on behalf of d/Deaf, DeafBlind, and hard of hearing communities and their families.

Board members include d/Deaf, DeafBlind, and hard of hearing representatives, parents, professionals, and representatives from related state organizations and the state legislature. The Board meets quarterly to help guide programs and activities.

DeafBlind Advisory Committee

Created by the Board in 2023, the DeafBlind Advisory Committee identifies needs, addresses issues, and recommends actionable solutions for the DeafBlind community in Louisiana,

The DeafBlind Advisory Committee meets a minimum of two times per year.

Interpreter Registration Oversight Committee

Established by the Board in 2025, the Interpreter Registration Oversight Committee advises on all regulatory matters for Louisiana sign language interpreters. This includes recommendations for developing and implementing minimum standards, registration, compliance, and grievance management.

The Committee meets a minimum of two times per year.

Ad Hoc and Task Forces of the Board of Commissioners​

The Louisiana Commission for the Deaf Board of Commissioners also forms temporary task forces and ad hoc committees to support the Commission and inform policy. When active, these groups and their current work can be found on the Board of Commissioners webpage.
